Qatar-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry partners with Kent to support Kazakh contractors' participation in Qatari tenders
The Qatar-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kent, aimed at helping Kazakh contractors gain better access to the Qatari market.

This agreement comes amid efforts by the governments of Astana and Doha to strengthen ties in the oil and gas sector. Last month, Kazakhstan awarded Qatari UCC Holding a 75% stake in a project to build a gas processing plant at the Kashagan oil and gas field.

As a leader in engineering and technical services, Kent will leverage its expertise to support Kazakh businesses in accessing the Qatari market and forming meaningful partnerships. The funding for specific projects will be determined through supplementary agreements, ensuring flexibility and mutual benefit,” the company stated.

“Kent has already secured contracts for engineering, procurement, and construction in Qatar, where the company is involved in numerous projects for the development of existing facilities,” said Simon Lyons, Kent's Chief Business Development Officer.

Aidos Koldassov, Executive Director of the Qatar-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared that Kazakh contractors in oilfield services and construction are seeking opportunities in the Middle East, with Qatar being a priority, followed by Saudi Arabia. The chamber will assist them in participating in tenders.

Energy sector cooperation between Qatar and Kazakhstan was further strengthened in December when UCC Holding received a stake in the Kashagan gas processing project, with plans to become a major investor in Kazakhstan. The plant will process 1 billion cubic meters of associated gas per year from the offshore Kashagan project, operated by Eni and Shell, producing pipeline-quality natural gas and polymer feedstocks. UCC is also considering a proposal to become an investor and project manager for a second, larger Kashagan gas processing facility, with a capacity of up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

The Qatar-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry was founded in 2023 by Kazakh entrepreneur Almas Kudaibergen, the founder of Centrasia Group, whose subsidiaries have previously secured contracts for construction on three major foreign-led oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan — Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak.

In November 2024, Centrasia Middle East Contracting, a foreign subsidiary, secured a five-year contract for scaffolding and painting works at Qatargas’ LNG plants in Qatar.
In addition to Centrasia Group and its three affiliates, the Qatar-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry includes Qatar-based Itag. Itag is an affiliate of the Arabian International Petroleum Corporation, founded in 1997 by Qatari oil and gas industry veteran Jaber Al-Marri.
